Youth sports programs play an important role in promoting the physical, social and emotional development of children. It is therefore essential for parents, coaches and officials to encourage youth athletes to embrace the values of “being a good sport”. Moreover, adults involved in youth sporting events should be role models and should demonstrate fairness, respect and self-control.
I therefore pledge to be responsible for my words and actions while attending, coaching, officiating or participating in youth sporting events and shall adhere to the following code of conduct:
Demonstrating Respect
- I recognize that I am representing Lakes Volleyball at sporting events and will act accordingly.
- I will not engage in disrespectful conduct with any coach, parent, player, participant, official or any other attendee. I will not use profanity, engage in verbal or physical threats, or initiate fights or scuffles.
- I will not encourage my child, or any other person, to engage in disrespectful conduct with any coach, parent, player, participant, official or any other attendee. I will not encourage them to use profanity, engage in verbal or physical threats, or initiate fights or scuffles.
- I will treat any coach, parent, player, participant, official or any other attendee with respect regardless of race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, or gender identity or expression.
- I will encourage my child to treat any coach, parent, player, participant, official or any other attendee with respect regardless of race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, or gender identity or expression.
Demonstrating Safe Behavior
- I will not engage in any behavior which would endanger the health, safety or well-being of any coach, parent, player, participant, official or any other attendee.
- I will not encourage my child, or any other person, to engage in any behavior which would endanger the health, safety or well-being of any coach, parent, player, participant, official or any other attendee.
- I will not engage in cyberbullying acts to any other coach, parent, player, board member, official or any other sports attendee. Cyberbullying includes, but is not limited to, the following misuses of technology: harassing, teasing, intimidating, threatening, or terrorizing by way of any technological tool, such as sending or posting inappropriate or derogatory e-mail messages, instant messages, text messages, digital pictures or images, or Web site postings (including blogs).
- I will not use drugs or alcohol while at a youth sports event and will not attend, coach, officiate or participate in a youth sports event while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
- I will not permit my child, or encourage any other person, to use drugs or alcohol at a youth sports event and will not permit my child, or encourage any other person, to attend, coach, officiate or participate in a youth sports event while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Understanding Consequences
- I hereby agree that if I fail to adhere to code of conduct conform my conduct while attending, coaching, officiating or participating in a youth sports event, I may be subject to disciplinary action, including but not limited to the following in any order or combination:
- Verbal warning issued by the organization.
- Written warning issued by the organization.
- Suspension from multiple youth sports events issued by the organization.
- Season suspension or multiple season suspension issued by the organization.
